Visit to Algeria of the SRSG and Head of UNSMIL Dr. Ghassan Salame, on 26th August 2017.
The new Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salame will be making an official visit to Algiers from Saturday as part of the “consultations and regular contact” between Algeria and UNSMIL.
During this two-day visit, Dr. Salame will hold meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelkader Messahel and other top Algerian government officials. The meetings will mainly “focus on the situation in Libyan in light of the recent developments and the current efforts initiated by the United Nations towards finding a political solution in order to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya as well as unity and cohesion among the Libyan people”.
Another key point of discussion shall be “the need for the United Nations to resume its role of leading the discussions between the parties in Libya”. The upcoming internationally and regionally fixed deadlines for a permanent solution to the crisis affecting this neighboring and sister country as well as achieving permanent peace, security and stability shall be discussed.
